Hedgerows, woodlands, parks and gardens are full of powerful medicinal plants, and knowing how to harvest them is a useful and empowering skill. We’ll take a walk in the beautiful Welsh countryside and learn how to identify medicinal plants, what their uses are and how to safely and conscientiously forage for them.
These foraging walks are accessible for total beginners and each walk will have a foraging handout identifying the most common plants available at the time of year, and information on how to preserve and use them. But even if you’re a seasoned forager there’s always something new to learn, and sharing your own knowledge is definitely encouraged!
What to expect: About the workshops
Learning to identify and collect medicinal plants is just one part of the story – in the afternoon we’ll learn how to preserve and store the herbs we forage, and make a useful herbal product that you can take home with you. Each season we’ll make a different product that best suits the herbs that are available at the time of year.
SPRING – Tea blending
The first plants that emerge in spring are detoxifying and cleansing – perfect after a long winter of eating rich and warming foods! Nettles, cleavers, dandelions, and other edible greens such as pennywort and wild garlic are rich in nutrients, stimulate the digestive system and support the lymph system. We can simply eat these plants in salads, add them to sauces or make pesto and soups, or we can prepare a refreshing tea blend.
What to look forward to:
